Animal Shelter Kennel Staff

Full-time, $13-14/hr

Ware County Animal Services

This position is responsible for maintaining the overall care of animals within Ware County Animal Services. The responsibilities will vary based on the current needs of the shelter and may vary by day. Assignments may include but are not limited to:

• maintaining clean and sanitary kennels
• assisting in physical assessments of animals upon intake
• assisting in medical assessments upon intake. Taking care to note any obvious abnormalities, injuries, illnesses or diseases.
• Assisting in behavioral assessments upon intake and throughout the duration of the animal’s care
• Assessments of animals in the care of the shelter noting changes in appearance or behavior. Taking care to monitor the shelter population for signs of illness or social instability.
• Monitor the environmental conditions of the shelter and the equipment.
• Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge required:

• Knowledge of general animal behavior and nutrition.
• Knowledge of general care and maintenance of animals.
• Knowledge of animal illnesses and diseases and how they are transmitted, controlled and prevented.
• Ability to organize and communicate the needs of the facility and its animals effectively.
• Ability to read, write, and perform mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school or its equivalent.
